Axles and stub axles

I bought a 915 tranny for my 3.0L that is going into my 71 coupe. I had a local shop go through it. Typically, it was described as smooth shifting and in great shape. Well when I got it, the PO had painted it silver right over the top of dirt and gunk on the tranny. Nice. The shop went through it and said that 3rd and 4th synchro's were toast. I had then go ahead and replace all of the synchro's.

Now I've got it home and I need to get some axles as my roller didn't come with any. The tranny has the 100mm 6 bolt flanges. I looked here on PP and it looks like these are the axles I need Pelican Parts - Product Information: 911-332-033-09-M60

Do most people just buy new remanufactured axles like these from Pelican or is this something I should go look in the for sale forums for? I also need stub axles, I guess I'll post a wanted ad for those.

Also, several post indicate I should buy moon plates for the connection between the CV and the Tranny output flange. Where should I go for these? The link to the axles above shows they come with 47 mm bolts. Won't I need longer bolts if I use the moon plates?

A lot of guy's get the re-manufactured axles. Instead of moon plates I use schnoor washers and blue loctite.

"Remanufactured" would be the same as "refurbished" - but those axles are new.

For the price difference, just buy new; unless the axles have been stripped, cleaned and photographed, you've no idea what you'll get.

They're toast if they knock or have play - but unless they've been stripped/inspected, you can't know the exact condition of the bearing surfaces in the CVs - and some used axles I've bought had CVs much worse internally than the ones I was trying to repair/rebuild...

Many people don't bother to periodically strip, clean and re-pack them, either. I've done it - probably won't again... It's time consuming and quite laughably filthy. Like moly grease everywhere, 3 cans of brake cleaner and 2 rolls of shop towels dirty...

Just fit new.

There's a pair recently removed from my car in the plastic bag in the bottom-right corner of the box in this photo:

Pretty sure they're the same from '69 up or thereabouts: PET lists 901.332.232.00 for the early cars and 901.332.232.01 for SCs and up (pre-G50).

Don't know the difference, if any - I know the axles that were bolted to these when they were in my car are currently bolted into an SC...
