i need washers
i need the 3 washers that go on the cam line on the right side. i have a very bad leak from where the "restrictor" bolts to the cam housing. it looks like i have 2 different types of washers there. one is the aluminum type and 2 are harder.

The correct factory washers are actually steel, pt #900-123-005-00. You should be able to get them through a local source/dealer, retail $2.04 each. I like to put a light coat of Loctite 574 (case sealant) on the threads of the restrictor fitting that screws into the cam box. Use caution tightening this fitting as it is fine threads going into aluminum.

If you are looking for these, I just installed copper ones, as recommended by PP.

those 2 and the one on the cam housing.
2 i think are steel, one was aluminum. i thought all 3 would have been aluminum.

Aluminum or Copper crush washers........
Ty,
If you want to stop the leak, use the soft material crush washers like Al or Cu. I've never used steel crush washers at these fittings. Go visit your local auto dealers (Japanese or European cars). Tony Last edited by boyt911sc; 04-13-2013 at 12:05 PM.. |

I also would recommend copper. If no new ones are avaiilable, copper washers can be reused after soften them by heating them up until they are glowing.

Also...be careful to not over torque as the hollow bolt will snap. Ask me how I know!

Then plunge into water while glowing, annealing copper, backwards from steel!

i need some part numbers for the aluminum washers. this leak is driving me nuts.
i think i was leaking from the studs and the oil line. the valve cover looks better, now the oil is just running down the valve cover.

I have used sealing washers for years...mostly copper....the kind with a series of indented rings in the sealing surface.
I get them from McMaster-Carr...by the 100 box. Using old washers is for amateurs. The cost of these things is so small...there is no excuse for re-using any of them. Bob

Reuse?
M2CW I replace the 2 "soft" sealing washers at oil changes so why try to reuse the washers on a critical oiling line fitting if you do not have to? I look at in terms of $10 worth of washers vs. a cam meltdown or oil fire. Since the factory washers do not seal because the surfaces are "not new" then go for the softer aftermarket Al or Cu washers. Check with our host. I broke a few of the hollow "banjo bolts" turning wrenches in my youth so as Pelicans above stated "watch your torque". An inch-pound torque wrench may be in order. The aluminum threads in the cam towers will not like excessive torque. Fine threads handle more load but require more care. Best of luck.

crush washers
This is where you want to get a lifetime supply.
McMaster-Carr You'll have them in 2 days, standard shipping every time. You have to know the size or just get several boxes!

washers
I've still found it to be less $$ to get the drain plug sizes locally but smaller and odd sizes probably aren't at the FLAPs.

i hate to reuse copper/alu washers but where to get them i dont know. i have had my injectors out of my 930 twice this week and had to reuse those copper washers. when you dont do this for a living and you need to do something like pull injectors you have to do with what you have at hand at the time, which is nothing.
