Need help w/ alternator removal!

Hello all. Well, I have gone crazy and want to detail my engine compartment starting with polishing the fan. I have removed the belt, strap bolt, the bolts that attach the shroud, and the three bolts that hold the alt cover to the alternator but cannot seem to get it out. The problem I seem to be running into is that the Cabriolet has this support thing behind (in front of) the fan assembly and it does not seem to allow enough clearance to get the fan out (see photos). How do I get it out?? Do I need to remove the support "thing"? It looks like that would be a huge PIA as it is attached above and below and perhaps behind the muffler also! THANKS!!
