Just got my numerical oil temp kit...quick question.

I've worked on my gauges before, so I'm fine there. But as for the sender install, any tricks here? Does it go to the lower left of the pressure sender under the fan? I don't have my books with me and just want to hear from anyone who has done this to make sure I don't skip something and ruin my new part. Thanks.

Richard,

Your sender unit is probably in the same place as mine -- to the right, under the fan.

I bought the same kit a couple of months ago. But I haven't installed it because I cannot get a torque wrench over the sender due to the tin around it.

I'd like to know if anyone else has thought up a solution short of dropping the engine.

I've changed that sender several times. Just use a standard open end or box end wrench. Once you loosen it a quarter turn you can twist it out with your fingers. you will drip a little oil so put a rag under the the car. Putting it back in can be tight especially if you have AC. Just use your fingers and tighten it up - last quarter turn with an opend end. USE A NEW WASHER. DO NOT REUSE THE OLD ONE.

Enjoy

the temp sender is the easy one. make sure you have the sender that comes with the temp gauge, as a kit, or it won't be accurate. the oil guage sender is the hard one, on A/C equipped cars. just remove the A/C pump and set it aside on top of the engine, or on a thick blanket on the fender. then remove the flat bracket it sits on. just 4 fasteners. that takes 15 minutes, if you're slow. way easier than fiddle-farting around with crowfoot tools for 2 hours.

Can someone please give me the torque spec. for the sensor? In the unlikely event that I'm able to get my torque wrench down there, I'd like to know how tight it needs to be and my Bentley book is out on loan right now. Thanks.

Just had to pipe in with another huzzah in the Pelican BBS Love Fest...

I just came upstairs from the driveway with oily and scratched up hands after trying to remove my g**damned oil temp sender hoping to find some advice on this BBS and voila !! Looks like Rich LeSchander is having the identical problem at almost the same time and has already posted the question and received answers. DAMN !! Here's to hoping the Pelican Founders become zillionaires !!

Thanks,

I got mine off with a 1/2" SAE open end wrench - no problem. Getting the new one in was no fun.

I think a PC in the garage might be in order for the DIY checking the BBS!

I did mine last night and to see what I did step by step just do a search for the thread titled "Numerical Temp Guage Conversion."
