original tire size on 7 X 15 fuchs?

My 76 911s had 205 60 15's. I note in a number of threads that 205 50 15's seem to be recommended. What was the tire size from the factory? 195 65 15's? Thanks, Gary

Ps--love to use vredestein 185 70 15's. will these work on 15 X 7's?

I seem to remember that 185/70 15s were standard back in those days. The Vredsteins and Semperits were both popular back then and I also remember them fondly.

I ran 185/70 -15 Semperits on my 7x 15 fake fuchs on my 71. A good combination as I recall.

In Anderson's Porsche 911 Performance Handbook there were two sizes used on 7 x 15 wheels. 205 / 60 -15 for the front and 215 / 60 - 15 when on the rear.

^^ this is correct. My '76 came with the 6x15s all around. When I bought it in 1993, it was still running a 185/70-15 in the front (205/60 in the rear). IMHO, the 215/60s always looked a little big...

I also ran the 195/65s. They were a nice fit.

It depended on the use,
'73 Carrera 2.7RS used 7x15 w/215/60 in back

'76 Carrera 3.0 used 7x15 w/ 205/50 in front or 7x15 w/ 185/70 in front or 7x15 w/ 225/50 in back it just depended on the option package installed on the car.

'77 Carrera 3.0 used 7x15 w/ 185/70 in front or on back or w/215/60 in back

My apologies; I didn't read your original question clearly and answered with useless info. My '75 came with 6 x 15 wheels.

I currently run 195/65R15's on those 6J x 15's, and they look "right" to me. 185mm is 7.28 inches, so 185's on a 7 inch may look "flat" on the side walls.
