930/911 Front Valence Differences?

Hi guys,

I suspect that they are identical but does anyone know if there are any differences between an 80's Carrera valence narrow body and the 930 item?

The P.O. hung a wide body air dam from the front of my car. I just purchased an excellent OEM 930 spoiler and want to go back to stock.

BTW: assuming they are the same, in a perfect world, I need one in silver with the fog lamp openings.

I'm in Tampa Florida.

Thanks, Scott

They are different at the ends. 930 valance stops in line with rear of bellows, 911 valance continues to the wheel opening.
These cars are 1986 930 and 1988 911.

The valence is different for some years and it takes some work and extra parts to change out between the 2.

You may want to speak with a Porsche body shop?

Oh Boy,

Bill thanks for those pics.....I'd convinced myself that Porsche in it's undying practicality had re-used the valence.

Maui, it's an '84, first year of the widebody. I do NOT want to talk to a Porsche body shop $$$!

Sounds as if I'd better get hold of a used item and paint.....

Appreciate it guys. Can anyone else weigh in on this?

Scott

What's left to tell? You can't swap them, so you need to buy the correct one. They aren't all that much money new, so I'd probably buy a new one and paint it. Sell the one you bought.

Left to tell?

I'd like to see a picture of the Turbo valence off the car, there are radical differences and I've never seen one sans an installed one looking pretty similar.

Obviously hoping someone might also weigh in with a lead on one. I have placed an ad on the used parts page. $640 new plus shipping from California? We have a difference of opinion on the solution to this problem Javadog.

Oh, and I didn't buy one at all yet, hence the research.

If you want to buy a used one, your best bet is to place a WTB ad in the parts forum. I'd bet you'd find one pretty quick.

I paid a lot less than that for the one I bought. One thing to consider is that the odds of finding a used one in the right color, and with good paint, are slim. These things take a beating from sand and rocks. To repaint one correctly, you really need to strip the stone guard material off of it, which is a bit of a pain. If you are not doing this yourself, that can eat up some cash quickly. Refinishing one of these without stripping everything off usually leads to a poor quality job. The difference in cost might not be as great as you think, but I suppose you have to weigh that for yourself.

In post #4 you say it's a wide body. Does that mean you have a turbo look?

Amazing Bill!

You are Johnny on the spot with terrific pictures. Thank you.

I've always heard Aussies are off the charts when it comes to downright friendliness.

JR, thanks for the advice too, I have an ad on the Pelican Parts Forum and hope to find one from a fellow P-car enthusiasts....

Wish me luck fellas....Scott

Then it "should" be the same parts as a standard turbo body. Someone with more knowledge than me will chime in eventually but I would hold off buying anything else until you know what you have and whet you need.
