HELP - no brake lights, charred connector, PICS

ATTN: Brake and Elec gurus - car is 85 Carrera
I think I found the reason I have no brake lights.
How should I go about fixing this?
First instinct is to start throwing money at it via new m/c switch, and plastic insulator. I have a track date in two weeks.
thanks in advance
Bill K

I got brake lights working by connecting the switch in the backround.
It was found to be disconnect when I removed the two ventilation hoses.
Why are there two switches?

Nooo....

It has to do with the fact that you have two brake circuits and it alerts you to the failure of either one.

Looks like it vibrated loose and charred the connector. Check to see the switch isn't a dead short, if it is still good, use a small screwdriver to remove the female spade connectors in the plastic housing, and replace the bad one. Then just put some heat shrink over the connectors and push them on until you find a good connector housing.

Thanks timmy2
Could very well be that it came loose when I removed the gas tank two weeks ago to install a through-the-body anti-sway bar. doh!!
Is the system redundant for just such a happenstance?
