How do you tell a factory shot shift kit
84 Carrera Cab
How do I tell if I have a Porsche or factory Short shift kit installed. What is the difference in appearance. Thanks PK |

You have to measure the lever travel, or pull it out of the car and look at/measure some of the components.

I borrowed this photo:
![]() Obvious visual differences: Every factory short shift (FSS) kit I've seen, including the semi-short shifters from '85-86, have a ring welded just below the knob end of the lever to anchor the factory leather shift boot. A more definitive difference is the rectangular "fork" that the lever pivots within (@ 3 o'clock). The profile of the top surface is curved as shown, whereas the fork on regular factory shifters has a flat profile. In addition, the hole in the FSS fork is offset about 12mm higher than its location in a non-FSS fork. Hope this helps, Sherwood |
