Need help with "while you're in there" list on an 88.

Gotta pull the clutch since shop is telling me that it's bad. Clutch isn't disengaging fully, and replacing the slave and bleeding the hell out of it isn't helping. It's a kennedy racing clutch that was installed in 04 with the top-end at 150k miles. Car has 200k on it now, so I can't imagine it's bad. Fork update was done at that point, too.

So, engine is geting pulled to see if the clutch is bad, or if maybe something else failed. Would be nice to go back to a stock clutch, but I'm not wanting to drop a grand on doing it if this one is fine.

O2, CHT, thermostat o-ring, plugs, wires, rotors - those were all done recently. Planning on replacing all the breather hoses, rear main seal, probably some seals on the tranny, new shifter fork (it's original), and that's about all that comes to mind. I can't really tell where it's leaking oil from, but it's somewhere on the back of the motor. Any other parts I should do while it's out?

off the top of my head....

- Oil cooler seals
- Thermostat seal (do it again)
- Valve cover gaskets and adjust valves
- inspect tensioners
- new fork tube on trans
- input shaft seal on trans
- shift fork bearings (be sure to get the right ones or it'll be a showstopper)
- flywheel to CS bolts (they're 1 time use stretch bolts)
- PP to flywheel bolts "

cheers!

Sweet. Will put those down. I'm planning on taking the cowling off the top to clean out any debris on the cylinders. Any seals or gaskets I'll need to do that job?

No gaskets for the cowling itself. You might want to replace in intake gaskets (x6)...up to you where you want to draw the line. Also fuel injector o-rings.
Clean out the intake while you have it apart.
Have an assortment of wire brushes and kerosene/carb cleaner etc to clean the engine up.

High temp flat black paint to paint all the shields. Also paint and bake the valve covers to give it some personality. Same for fan.

Take your time and have fun.
Wayne's book on engines and 101 are great so pick those up.

Without question, look at the fuel lines, as well as any vacuum lines.....so much you can do with that engine on the ground....

Fuel lines would be high on my list!

Best!

I did my clutch and pretty much all of the above. I had the shop detail the engine compartment too but forgot to have them replace the insulation / sound pad. Now it runs great but could have looked better
