'79 SC died, won't start...

As the title states my new to me '79 SC died and won't fire now. I was driving along and the car surged, then died. Got it towed back to the house and this morning was using the service manual to diagnose when I found one of the two brown wires going into the control pressure regulator has snapped of and was hanging free. There are two red/white striped wires and two brown wires going into the plug, and before I go sticking that into the plug I want to make sure where it goes. The two red/white wires go into the same "hole", can someone check to make sure the two brown wires go into the same "hole" please. I pulled up a wiring diagram but wanted to stab my eyes out looking at it. Also, would this loose wire cause the car to die and not re-fire?

This is frustrating because I've owned the car maybe 5 weeks and it spent 4 of those weeks at Jones Autowerk (in San Antonio) getting the transmission rebuilt. Got it back Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon I'm hailing a tow truck. Although the engine had been rebuilt and has ~500 miles on it, the car actually sat for quite a while before I bought it. I think the guy just got frustrated and ultimately just gave up (the prior engine was from Motor Meister and never ran right before it grenaded) because he didn't have the resources to sink into the transmission/car after what he'd spent with MM and the subsequent engine build. So now it's mine and it has some relatively minor issues, aside from the transmission, most of which stem from lack of use and a previous owner who really didn't understand the car and didn't bother to take the time to learn. Not that I understand the car, but I'm working to correct that.

Anyway, so that's my intro thread... not what I'd imagined it would be when I bought the car.

Thanks in advance
Keith

The double wires is to feed the aux air reg on the #5 runner.
This, the warm up reg, is for control pressure across the system, it powers up with the key on and controls pressure all the time.
Acertain that you have spark, fuel and compression
If the brown wire in the pic is the problem, its ground, just jump it to ground and it should be workable

The 2 browns go together on the plug terminal that goes into the plastic housing and the 2 red/whites go together.
If you can't get the inside pins out without breaking the housing...(Ask me how I know)
You can buy a new connector with pins and rubber boot from eagleday, 2-Pole Female AMP Junior Timer Connector Kit
AMP Connectors/Terminals
Or, I can send you the same "kit" for $10 shipped via paypal. (I have a few... )
It will be black as the grey ones are NLA. PM me if you need one.

This is a stupid question, but can you explain what a "tranny rebuild" is when you have a manual stick shift?
There is no automatic transmission (which is usually a $3000 rebuild).
What sort of rebuild do manual transmissions need?
What does this generally cost to rebuild?

In my case the transmission needed all new synchro's and 1st thru 4th shift sleeves, plus a new clutch; parts were about $1500 give or take then you have labor. All in all, parts and labor for everything they did for me I spent abit over $3500.

Alright, the wife finally came home so I could check for spark and I had nothing. I remembered Jones installed a new battery as well as "repair wiring at engine harness (ignition)" so I started at the battery and found one red wire coming from the 3rd fuse from the left just hanging, and two black wires just laying there (see pic). Not sure where the two black wires go, but I believe I found where the red wire came loose. Any help figuring out the black wires will be greatly appreciated, although I know that's a tough one from just this picture.

All's well that ends well. Checked the coil with an ohm meter and it was toast, threw a new one in and fired right up.

Thanks to those who responded.
