I am preparing to rebuild my 911SC motor, (top end at least), and was wondering if anyone in Southern California might have engine stand w/ 911 yoke plus other specialized tools which I could rent. I am buying some of them, but hate to spend a fortune on that which I might only use once. I would gladly give someone a cash deposit equal to value of tools/equipment plus fair rental loot. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please let me know. What do you other DIY guys do?

I would buy the tools, then get rid of them on Ebay. Probably cheaper than renting, and also easier...

You don't need the expensive specialized engine stand! A generic $50-$80 stand from a local parts store or www.summitracing.com will work just fine!

I know that any engine stand will do. I just need 911 yoke. I could buy everything and sell it, but I do not have storage space. I live in an apartment and will use friend's garage just for time it takes to do motor. By far the easiest thing would be if someone else has all the things I need collecting dust and wants to help out fellow Porsche owner and get paid for trouble. Maybe I'm dreaming, but it's worth a shot.

I'll be happy to lend you my yoke, but you'll need to buy the stand to which it attaches; that part is too big to ship.

Warren is still right. You do not need the yolk. See photo number #7 in the link below...The yolk will only be handy if you decide to work on the flywheel area of the engine while mounted. I had the engine in the photos mounted for a couple of months and the stand did come from Summit. You do want one with hollow type arms on the yolk for the most adjustability.
