911 engine cooling fan blade Magnesium or aluminum ???
Was going to powder coat the fan on my 84 Euro turbo engine but the shop asked if it was magnesium or aluminum. Important because if it is magnesium it could self destruct when heated., Apparantly this has happened to them previously. Can anyone verify this query. Thanks Rob

I thought some were magnesium.... I had mine powdercoated with no issues (1980 SC).... I thought is was magnesium......
Magnesium self ignites at 883 F per Wikipedia, and I believe powder coating is only about 450F max... So I am not sure what they are talking about? If you do get a place to do it for you, make sure they don't coat the ends of the blades or you will need to sand that off..... Ask me how I know.....

Did mine in the garage; nice long pre-bake and there's been no issue.
