Did SC's have a factory "Buzzer"?

While I was under the dash of my '82 SC installing a new ignition switch, I noticed that the source of the annoying 10 seconds of buzzing every time I started the car was an after market buzzer box. A PO had spliced this thing in to the run signals from the ignition switch, and the key-in-ignition sensor. I removed it, because the added-in wiring was not done well, and I never cared for the buzzing.

Did the car originally have a buzzer that this was installed to replace, or did this guy just really love a the sounds of a buzzer?

What was the key-in-ignition sensor was wired to before?

Could it be related to seat belt warning?

I don't think this was around in 82 but if its after market then perhaps it was installed. Have you tried the ignition with th seat belts fastened?

I would also suggest low beam lighting but I think it would be less likely that you turn the lights on before the car is running.

Factory buzzer warns you the key is in the ignition. Opening either door triggers it. Sometimes there is a bit of a delay. Pulling the key out a bit stops it (stays off if key is pushed back in). Opening door with engine on also triggers it.

These were frequently disabled because the buzzer is so annoying. I tolerate it for the sake of originality.

Mine quit working about a year ago on my '83. I didn't notice it for a while so I'm not sure if it just died or if I did something accidentally while I was fixing something else. Have to say I don't miss it but that will only last until I do something stupid like leave the headlights on and drain the battery.

US spec had a buzzer behind the gas gauge.

Yours may have been added as a requirement for importing a euro model as a seatbelt buzzer is a US federal requirement.

I unplugged mine years ago. Only consequence on a US model is the seatbelt light will no longer Illuminate with the relay unplugged.

On some of the later cars (86-on I think) the seatbelt buzzer was tied to the interior lights wiring so that if you disconnected it or it stopped working your interior dome lights would no longer function.

On both of my '86's and my '88, the dome lights function without the buzzer relay.
