Idle accelerate then die
Hi all,
Found and addressed vacuum leak. Checked timing at idle still good. Turned idle adjustment screw after quick warm up, about two minutes and idling nicely at 900 rpms. As soon as I step on the gas and then let off it chugs and dies. More fuel? Thanks, Gary 1978 911 sc cal targa |

what do you mean by chugs?
do the rpms drop down low then it dies? not likely more fuel. usually it is richened up, then you fix air leaks and it needs to be leaned back out. you can remove the air filter, reach in and lift up and pull down on the sensor plate arm, be careful with it, and see which way makes it idle better. up means its too lean, better when pulling down means too rich. you should always check timing/advance, replace plugs, cap and rotor, check fuel pressures then make final mixture adjustment.

Less fuel, more warm up. Mine would do exactly as you described when set too rich.
You should only set the idle and mixture fully warmed up after a 15-20 minute drive with a CO meter.
