Ever have your front tire get caught in the unrolled lip of the fender?

A sort of pop/bang on the front, cannot figure out what happened, then noticed on examination that the inner lip of the rightside front wheel well was slightly pulled down, into a pointy triangle facing straight down. Running 7" with a 205 (NOT 225), so what the heck?

The car sits at ~ 25and1/4" on that lip, as measured from ground through center exact of wheel. Ever hear of this? Was pretty surprised...

What is your shock condition. Static ride ht. is different than moving as it depends on the road surface, potholes etc...I had the same on my SC front drivers side. Lip cut into my then 225 so I put 205's on and it pulled the 11 oclock position down. then I rolled the lip.

I'd like to know, also. I bought my Carrera with that similar triangular "dent". Mine is on the driver's side.

Hows your camber? If it has slipped and you have too much positive camber I could see the tire hitting the fender lip. This happened to me with 225's on 7's in the front, now that I have more neg. camber it's not a problem.

That's the thing gents - completely new suspension so nothing worn, we set the ride height, then I took it over to a trusted place for alignment. No major potholes or anything that might make me think something shifted or otherwise.

I mean, unless the cap on the T-bar can just adjust itself? If a T-bar can jump its teeth? Cannot imagine that - everything looks tight and right after lifting car and inspecting visually.

So I am thinking this is another quirk of our cars? Thanks very much for your thoughts on this.

EDIT: I am running very little camber - had the shop set this up for Country Mouse in the Big City road work - no DE, etc.

EDIT2: Funny thing is that it is always the LEFT side that causes concern - that seems to always be the one that rubs on full wheel lock, turning.

I have had similar issues, only on the left side. Solved it by changing to narrower 205s (Bridgestone S-02 is has about 0.4 inch narrower section width than most other 205s) AND bending the fender out. When troubleshooting I found the left fender wheel arch to be about 1/2 inch narrower on the left side. I used a piece of hardwood to pry it out gently and now both sides are equal. Problem gone

Camber is the same btw on both sides

Exact same thing with my car! Same measurement too which is quite a coincidence.

Jdub - so this just started after the alignment?

driver side fender

This is how mine looks like at the driver's side. Mine sits 24.5" upfront running on 225/45/17s. I have not rolled it but an alignment and camber made a big improvement except for hard fast corners. Will roll fenders soon and might mount 215/45s on my next cycle.

It happens all the time even 7x16 ET23.3 w/ 205/55 x16 tires is an aggressive fit

I much prefer shaving the lips as opposed to rolling them, you get a lot more room

Hi Bill,

Can I just cut or grind the affected portion only maybe 1 1/2 inch of the lip of the above photo?

I used a hi speed air powered body shop saw on mine, less heat build up that way

Chris: No, not just after alignment. It has been a bit of time, but it has only just happened to me.

I too suggest grinding away offending metal. However, there's only a couple of sections that need that remedy. Apply a protective coating on any bare metal, and leave enough lip to provide sufficient rigidity and an unmolested appearance.
