ON MY 87 CARRERA SLANT I,VE INSTALLED AN AUTHORITY CHIP,
VERTEX CONE FILTER , CAT BYPASS, AND BURSCH MUFFLER AND ABSOLUTLY LOVE THE PERFORMANCE. IN A CABRIOLET THE OLD B AND B TWIN 4" EXHAUST WOULD POP AND CRACK AT SHIFT POINTS AND DROAN AT A STEADY 70MPH, NOW THE CAR SOUNDS LIKE A PORSCHE AGAIN AND DOES ROAR WHEN PRESSED. AND IS QUIET WHEN DRIVEN CONSERVATIVLY. KEITH |

Kurt - I did not think about that pad under the rear deck where the speakers are! Damn just had that undone putting in new rears.
Did you toss the carpet and mats? my metal floors look a bit beat up to go without

I put the carpet back. You take the carpet out, take the padding beneath the seats out (pretty darn heavy), then put the carpet back in, and put the seats in it...it's very easy..I can post a pic of what it looks like, basically the same as it does now, but the seats setting a bit lower (and they won't line up with seat backs as it changes their position too)
It looks exactly like it did before minus the seat backs...it's just lighter and louder ![]()

I just had the cat reinstalled for smog...
My popping almost went away. My bypass doesn't QUITE fit. I ended up doubling up on the bypass to muffler gaskets. That helped quite a bit. I also noticed when putting the cat back on.. the engine is MUCH smoother in accelerating. Not sure if it is slower.. but it is smoother. I have a weltmeister chip. Stock intake and filter. I also have K&N filter, but no noticable difference. I wonder if the Cone filters are simply getting cooler air intake. I was contemplating doing what WIDEBODY (and some other SC guy on here) has done with the cold air intake. Thoughts anyone?

The cat-pipe conversions sound interesting and worth while. How does this affect the bi-annual emissions testing requirements in California?

Yea, it does if the guy (or gal) doing the visual knows what he is looking at. However the pre-muffler look similar to a cat and can pass as long as the rest of the test passes.
A side note: can the heat shield be installed with the pre-muffler? The reaon I ask it will help in the illusion that it is a cat not a by pass.

Born - George (cant think of his Pelican nick) said it has no way to attach the cat cover plate. I agree with it confusing the visual people.
