72 clutch and trans problems

I have a 72 lightweight 911 with a rebuilt 915 trans and rebuilt twin plug 2.8 RSR MFI type motor.

After driving the car for the first time I noticed the trans sometimes grinds downshifting to 3rd and 4th gear. I noticed it happens more so when the revs are higher. I also struggle sometimes to get it into 3rd or 4th gear on upshifts. Does the trans need adjustments, could something be wrong with the trans on the rebuild or does this go away as I break it in?

Another problem I have is after driving the car hard(the car is very powerful) the car will freewheel without getting the power to the wheels. It feels like the clutch is gone, yet I don,t smell any clutch. After the car sits for a while(anywhere from 1 minute to 15 minutes) the clutch works again. Can a clutch overheat without smelling clutch material, will a stronger clutch solve the problem and could the clutch problem have something to do with the trans problems?

Your advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Check the clutch cable adjustment. Grinding is due to clutch dragging. Dragging clutch overheats = slipping clutch when giving it power.
