Your typo aside, upper studs were steel and lower studs were Dilavar when the engine was originally built.

I have the same thing in my 80 sc. One broken stud and its a non magnetic upper.

In my experience (from engines I worked with) dilavar is crap in 3.0 and above, steel doesn't cut it in a 3.6.
I have Supertec studs in my 3.2 and in my 3.6 (still in pieces). Dilavar might work in a 2.7 and steel might work in 3.0-3.2 , no experience with that.
