Engine removal/transmision seperation - 3.2l question...

Will be dropping a 3.2 from one of my 911's this week and will be removing both engine and transmission together.

At that point any advice on separating the tranny from the engine?

I was reading my manuals, looking at old threads, but couldn't find anything specific on the 3.2 with 915. Sorry if I missed a thread...

Since dropping both I don't think there is any big issues it seems the problems arise when people leave the transmission in the car (older models at least).

I'll remove the starter for sure and then it looks like three bolts.


Seems almost "too" easy...I say nervously.

Just remove the clutch release levers while it's still in the car and you're good.

As John mentioned above, you need to remove the clutch release levers while the engine is still in the car. This was difficult on my car, I sent through a few different types of pullers before I got them off. I think I needed snap ring pliers as well.

Starter can come off after you get the engine out.

I pulled the engine and transmission on my 84 Targa earlier this year. I sent the transmission out to CMS for a rebuild and I've been going through the cleaning, plating, powder coating, cerakote process on the engine.

I should have the car back together before the end of this year.

Have about 5 open tabs open and one of them is their video (series) about dropping and separating. Plus it's a 3.2 also if I am not mistaken.

Wall mounted a TV in the garage so will be doing a lot of play/pause I am sure

My tip (not so much for the engine/ transmission separation, but for the whole process), take lots of pictures along the way of any connectors you undo, etc. Everything that seems quite obvious when you’re taking it apart does not necessarily seem quite so obvious when you are putting it back together.

Just do it ten times and you won't need any more pictures. It's all in your head.

Agree 100%. New laptop so I can transfer immediately from my camera and phone into the "engine removal" file.

I am hoping after 2-3 times...but 10 is probably the safer bet.

Dropped the engine/trans last night and separated with no issue.

Thanks to everyone for the input. I can see why you want to remove parts mentioned above when everything is still in place. Very easy job...so to speak.
