Related problems
After some ideas on 2 (possibly) related problems with my 84 Carrera before I take it to my trusty (expensive) mechanic….
1. I’m having a hot start problem. The car will start fine from cold but if I turn it off after coming up to temp it won’t start again. I had this problem years ago and it turned out to be the starter motor was dying. It could be this again but I thought starters lasted about 15 years? The symptoms are exactly the same as the last time. Could it be an old battery not charging up fully? 2. The car drives normally from cold, but once up to operating temp, under hard acceleration it hesitates and loses power. After a warm-up it will accelerate hard but when fully up to operating temp it has the problem. Could these problems be related? Are there fuelling issues which come up once they’re hot? Could the fuelling issue be effecting the hot start-up? Thanks! |

Have you checked all your grounds? Borderline loose, or corrosion on them could loose conductivity when hot. Just a guess, but easy diy before giving up to the experts.

Does it just click or turn and not fire?
Just a click....Try whacking the solenoid with a BFH.
