Glove box light won't go off

Hello --

Longtime lurker, first time poster.

The glove box light in my '86 911 will not turn off. I've pulled the switch and checked to make sure that it slides correctly. Eventually I took the fuse out.

Now the light goes off when I turn the car off but remains on when I'm driving. Any suggestions for fixing this?

Thanks !

I don't mean to be insulting ...... but the light itself is a switch. It has three positions and rotates longitudinally around its axis.

Try pushing the edge closest to the glove door than the edge nearest the passenger seat and it should bump into one of three detents.

1. Off always
2. On when the door is opened
3. On all the time.

Hope this helps and your problem isn't deeper.

Btw: Welcome!

Not insulting

That was my first thought as well, but I was trying to pivot the light on the opposite axis.

Thanks for the quick response. Much appreciated.

Pull it and check the connectors, the ground maybe making unwanted contact.

I assume it's the light inside and not above under the dash?

I would suspect the switch is bad. Pull the switch and test it. I was able to clean one of my door switches with contact cleaner, the other I had to replace.
