Testing / rebuilding sanden ac compressor

My car came with the compressor in a box. Older seller didnt remember the whys of removing it soi dont know if its good or not. Anyone know of a bench test? Anyone rebuilt one of these? The parts are out there. Ive rebuilt motors (not porsche) but this seems like a finnicky task with lots of pressing of parts onto shafts etc. have a press and suppose i can give it a shot but for some reason not loving the prospect.

84-89 years came factory stock with a Nippondenso 10P15C.
You can disassemble the compressor and inspect the bores, pistons,
wobble plate, reed plates and shaft, and then re-seal it if everything looks
honky-dory. There is basically nothing to "press" in terms of simple seal replacement.
If the needle bearings inside (not the thrust bearings) are worn ... then chances are pistons, bores and wobble plate are as well,
and in that case you toss it all out. Pistons and bores should not be scratched. Contact surface on wobble plate where half bearings glide
should be smooth, like new. Point on shaft were nose seal o-ring makes contact should be clean. Reed plate assembly should be clean.
There should be no corroded or rusted components. No debris in the compressor or oil, such as metallic particles, grey matter,
sludge oil, etc.

Seldom will you come across a pulley that needs a new bearing.

The clutch coil's epoxy encapsulation should not be cracked or burnt.

There is a how-to article HERE

Does your compressor look like the unit in the how-to ?

We suggest taking compressors apart before ordering seal kits. Inspect the components first. Then make a decision.

There are both early and late model Denso 10p15c compressors so determine which seal kit you will need. Look at kit #SK735G and SK740G at the following site Automobile Air Conditioning Parts of Tucson Arizona, Century Auto Air, AC Parts, AC Service and Hoses, centuryautoair.com

The confusion with the 10P series is with the "A".
The compressor model version on a 911 is a 10P15C.
The version on the 964/993 is the 10PA15C

Most 10P15C use the same nose seal, a 2 piece (race and carbon type).
The 10PA15C uses 1 pc lip seal.

kuehl, I agree with you it is confusing. I have (3) sitting in a cabinet with (2) of them requiring removal of the nose (no snap ring) to replace the seal and (1) of them only requiring the removal of the snap ring located in the front to replace the seal. All three of them are stamped 10p15c. All three of them work great which is telling me that one can also swap the nose piece with no problems.
