Porsche Crest 2.7 Compression - update

Well, I'm breathing a lot easier now...

I went to visit my mech and to see my car. Turns out, my injectors were real bad.

They were:
1) Spraying fuel everywhere
2) Not spraying fuel
3) Dribbling fuel
4) Spitting fuel

The car had 5 exhaust valves which were very tight and two tight intake valves. This is all 8,000 since the heads were retensioned by the PO's mechanic after the rebuild. My mech couldn't believe that the valves weren't re-done after the heads were retensioned. Also, he's checked the head studs and they're holding up nicely.

So, after throwing in a new set of injectors and doing a thorough valve adjustment, my mechanic has fully restored compression to the two offending cylinders, which incidentally, had readings of 104psi and 98psi. Having poor injectors was "washing the bores" and with no oil in the cylinders, there was a lot of blow-by. Together with the poor valve settings, internal combustion had no hope, hence the lawnmower, 4-cyl sounds.

He's tuning the car this morning and changing the oil, so I will be able to pick it up tonight. My new Monty is on and the car is sounding STRONG! I can't wait to drive it!

Cam,

No beef at all with the PO. It's the PO's mechanic who I'm surprised at. I would assume that when cylinder heads are retensioned, the valves would naturally need to be done again.

Which mech would deliberately not do that when he knows that it would only be discovered later on? The PO was told all had been done and it was ready to drive for years and years.

The PO, btw, is my old high school buddy. Some of you might know him... Matt Holcomb!

That is good news, Adam!

So, what did the compression on those two cylinders return to?

I'll probably get the exact details tonight, Warren. I'll let you know. Thanks for your advice, though. My mechanic was very interested in the Chemtool "cocktail".

Cool

Adam...I do a routine oil analysis every 10k to stay on top of the situation, especially gas in the oil..I have to send off 3 samples to check for silicone in the oil, which is an indicator of dirt/dust getting thru air filter..I was using the K&N and saw a higher silicone than I liked and switched to stock air cleaner. I just did a big ride and was on dirt roads, so a good silicone reading will prove the point of using stock air filters. I use Oil Analysis Co., 1-804-526-1151 or L Turn9@msn.com ............Ron

Adam,

E-mail this thread to Mike Garner; I'm sure he'd appreciate an update! Or, we could just place an ad for Mike in the next issue of Porsche Parade using a screen cap of your thread starter!
