Post 911 Window trim paint

I have a 1979 911SC with the black window trim. It needs some attention and I don't want to pull all the glass to have it anodized. Any recommendations as to which paints look the best and hold up well.

I just painted all the chrome trim around my windows with a paint that I bought at kragen. It's called trim paint. I was amazed at how well it came out. The wurth paint is the best though.

Did you pull the trim out to paint it, or did you do it in place?

No less an authority than GM ... recommends in their service manuals that anodized aluminum trim be painted with PPG DP40/401 two-part epoxy chromate primer before attampting to repaint the trim black!

I used SEM self etching primer and trim paint. It's holding up well after 2 years.

Purchased the "Trim Paint" from Kragen, taped the trim off, painted it while on the car with excellent results. Washed the car a couple of times and now it looks like crap. I recommend treating the trim surfaces with primer prior to painting. I plan to redo the whole operation with the same materials and a good base coat of primer.

Since my car was in pieces, I sanded the trim pieces with 220. Then primed them with Zinc chromate(yellow). Then painted them with the trim paint. I'm sure the wurth paint is better and if i would of known about what s_man just said, I would have used that paint. I also tried the trim paint that tweeks sells. Have to say that the kragen paint was better. So far so good. Looks great after 3 washes. Did the door handles also because the powder coat guy wouldn't do them. They still look great also

Eric, where do I get the Wurth paint? What primer did you use? Thanks, Bill

Bill-

I would check here with Pelican first to see if they carry any Wurth products. If not, I know that Auto Atlanta carries them (don't know their number off-hand). Or, you could simply call Wurth directly (800-346-4198) and they will connect you to the closest distributor/rep. You can also visit their website at: www.wurthwest.com (no affiliation). As far as primer goes, you may want to take the advise of the above posters. However, The last job I did with the Wurth trim paint was my Fuchs wheel centers, and I didn't use any primer at all. I just roughed the surface well with industrial scotch-brite pads (the maroon colored ones), masked them off, and applied about 4 coats. It turned out great, and looked factory-done.
