Do I need to seal my fiberglass duck tail?
Hi guys - going to drive my 911 ugly (or, in other words, as she is) and am wondering if I need to seal/prime my duck tail. The duck tail is currently just fiberglass with no paint, and I want to make sure the oil etc that will inevitably get on it won't cause issues down the road when she gets properly painted.
Thanks.

Hi Karl - wasn't aware FLA had roads like that. Ha
Did you seal/primer/paint the exterior or just the interior to get started? Thanks, and nice '74!

I ran my ducktail in just the gel coat for a couple months before paint. It was recommended by the manufacturer to spend some time in the sun to fully cure before primer and paint to prevent off gas bubbles.

what Josh said...if it is a recent casting you should let it breath so you won't have paint issues later. Just clean it regularly while on the road.

TD... Florida does have roads like that but one would have to hang with Timothy Leary (or similar) to see them... Actually, that's in Colorado near Telluride. (Florida roads are much more boring!!!!) The entire tail --- inside & out --- was primed and painted white. Due to the texture of the fiberglass matting inside, it's not a simple matter to keep the interior of these glass tails clean --- and you know I like clean! You should post some photos of your '74! Work-in-progress images are great!
