Radio delete/no radio option car have antena

Guys,

Have a ROW 77 3.0 turbo in restoration/mods process now and COA on order (knowing COA is a crap soot for accuracy). However, car was a no sunroof, no AC, driver mirror only and came with a radio delete plate ( damaged).

If this car (or any 77 with radio delete) came with no radio, would it have an antenna?

Thanks,

Jimmy

Bob,

Correct, there is a antenna hole in the fender...

I am trying to find out if a radio delete car had the antenna or if the hole was plugged at the factory?

I do not know if the COA will state if it came with a radio or if ordered without one. Just trying to figure out if my car was ordered without a radio since it was a no option car with the exception of a limited slip.

Thanks,

Jimmy

I am of the opinion (maybe somebody knows better) that all radios in the 70s were dealer installed, and that the factory did not install antenna. That is why you see some antenna on the left and some on the right fenders. And why there is such a variety of radios. My thought is that a dealer drilled the hole in your right fender and installed an antenna. A later owner deleted the radio, as I did.

AM and FM reception is such where I live that it is a constant struggle to find something to listen to, that I took mine out. I listen to the engine, to the tires, to the road noises, ie to the car, and I love it.

If you need a new OEM Porsche radio delete plate, here's a source:

Porsche Dashplate Radio Delete Cover Trim 74 89 911 930 912E Genuine New | eBay

I don't think our host carries them. If so, please delete.

This is absolutely not true.

I can't answer the original question. A radio was standard on a US 930 but I don't know whether it was standard on a ROW car. I would be surprised if the car was without an antenna, plus the wiring for a radio. I ordered a 911 a few years after that without a radio and it came with the wiring and antenna, plus a radio delete plate.

javadog: You are probably correct. All I know is that my 74 911 (which I bought used about 2003) came without a radio, and that one was installed by the dealer, along with the antenna, because a receipt from the dealer for a radio, antenna and install were included in the papers. So the car simply may have been ordered w/o a radio or antenna. I bought my 74 914 new and all radios and antenna for the 914 were a dealer installed option.

Here is what my COA states:

Manual Antenna -Left, W/ Front
Loudspeaker & Noise Suppression

Dunlop Tires

Exterior Mirror - Passenger Side

No other options or deleted items listed such as radio type/brand, no sunroof, manual seats, manual windows and bright trim.

But more to your post it lists no radio brand or type so I figured it was radio delete to be installed by dealer.

I think there was also a post somewhere in regards to antenna placement - ROW wason the left and US on the right.

It was manual antennas on the left, power antennas on the right, irrespective of market.

That makes sense javadog, the electric unit would take up more space and with the fuel fill setup on the left side that would be tight.
