Lightbulb Clean your injectors w/o removal...

I happened to be watching some late night TV, and stumbled into a show called "Two Guys Garage" (or something similar to that).
They were doing a tune up on a late model pontiac and decided to clean the injectors. They unplugged the fuel pump, hooked up a can of compressed injector cleaner to a pressure regulator, attached it to the fuel rail, fired up the motor, and let it run until the can was empty.

I don't know if it was the hour or the booze, but it seemed like a great idea. Has anyone ever attempted this with their car? What was in the can? Does it work? It seems too easy. No, this was not an infomercial.

I've seen that show too. However, I prefer to do it the fun way.

Get a big bottle to Techron and pour into a 1/4 filled gas tank. Now take the car to a nice deserted windy road type of place and drive the hell out it, getting the engine nice and hot and running at WFO. Refill the tank to another 1/4 tank and repeat. Then fill the tank, drive till empty, and change the oil. Probably the same result, but much more fun.

This is no big deal....Mr. Goodwrench does it every day at the dealership service dept. "Injector Service Special...$49.99...while you wait...."

Probably more of a concern (for CIS cars) than the injectors themselves, are the injector o-ring seals and shells. Mine we're so deteriorated, it's amazing the motor ran at all.

Berryman B-12 Chemtool. Pour a can in your tank and go. Your valves will be much cleaner. I was impressed when I removed my exchangers this winter to discover how clean the previously blackened-with-carbon valves were. I'm sure the injectors received the same treatment. Good stuff.

My injectors are getting cleaned tomorrow. My fuel mixture is too lean. Fuel pressure is normal. Hopefully it is only dirty injectors that is causing the problem.

you can get that injector cleaner from parts stores that service "the industry" i.e. local mechanics etc. You need to get a special hose that goes from the can of cleaner to the schrader valve on the injector rail. I think In all its about $50 to get the celaner and hose the first time 'round

Great idea, only one problem, how do you get a schrader installed on a Carrera fuel rail?

About every 6 months my 3.2 develops a flat spot around 2-3K (lean is my guess - particularly when cold) and I run Techron through a tank or two. Seems to improve it and I attribute it to better spray from the injectors. The commercial treatment works similarly - just more potent stuff and probably does a better job.

I used to own a BMW/Benz repair shop and in the late 80s carbon buildup on valves was a big problem. We had one of these injector cleaners and the drivability was improved dramatically on some of the cars following treatment.
