Would anyone recommend putting the engine back in without the fan and carb's etc. to save having to lift the car so high, or will it be too hard to install all the ancillaries once the engine is in?

TIA
I did that because it was too much trouble to get the car that high in my garage. It wasn't too bad, but it would have been easier to install everything on a engine stand.

BTW, what does the average shop charge in hours to R& R an engine. Sounds like a decent pro should be able to do a carbed, non AC car in 4 hours without a problem.

Just a little more work than a '67 912, huh? LOL! Calendar instead of a stop watch!

i once dropped a motor in the middle of a lap of Eastern Creek when the motor mount bolts loosened...or likely werent tightened...

that makes mine "the fastest" since i was doing about 60 kmph and all you guys were standing still for yours...;-)

The ceiling hoist is nice if you want to take the time to set it up. It's also out of the way and can be used for other jobs.

Floor hoist has to be stored if you buy and takes up floor room but has the mobility of load function.

Also, I came across this article from Hotrod about Engine stands: Budget Engine Stands - Hot Rod Magazine

where "Cheapo" 750 lb rated stand held up to 2200 lb of load !!! with Grade 8 bolts...
