I know you've already decided....but I would have to say the porsche stripe.

The stripe gives balance to the car, especially in the middle section. Without it, it looks kinda fat in the middle. With it, it seems to shape up the car and give it the famous coke bottle look.

Besides, it would nicely matches the stripes you have on the duck.

You've summed it up perfectly. That is exactly why I have wrestled with the stripe decision for so long.

Thanks

I have also removed the gulf sticker from just one side as an experiment. I may put another back on but it changes the balance again.

I think it's unnecessary embellishment.

I wonder if I'd be happier with a Porsche script that was just a plain triple stripe with no lettering? The label is actually one of the things that has held me back from doing the stripe.

Even the early cars had a trim strip from the factory. It seems to remove that fatness.

(BTW, A friend recently reminded me that nobody drives an old track car with RSR flares on the street to be subtle). ;)

Here is a pic of what the trim (or stripe) tries to accomplish

The strip that Singer did on their cars is pretty cool and classy

If you don't want the Porsche stripe or plain stripe, paint the oil pipes black.

The car looks good on the driver side w/o the pipes. However, on the passenger side, those white oil pipes add to the middle of the car...making it fat.

I'm not much for subtle when it comes to my car. Do what makes you happy.

If it is not a carrera, then do not install that stripe. Like putting TURBO or M (bmw) or AMG (Merc) when it is not.

Car looks amazing with nothing, so you could stop there. But if you need stripes I dont oppose. Just Porsche, not lies.

Sigh...if the roll cage and the gold elephant oil lines (finned and non-painted to shed heat) don't look good to someone's eye, then there are a lot more things about this car that won't appeal to a person looking for that sort of car either. Its not that kind of Porsche. Its primarily a race car of the era when they could do double duty on the street and track, done with an eye to function. To some the gold oil lines are gaudy, to others it is pure car jewelry. Painting them would be like painting my wedding ring flesh colour, and they wouldn't do their job as well either (much like a flesh coloured wedding ring I suppose).

I appreciate well turned out original cars, I like the later era when a 911 became the sort of car to take a girl on a date, but I also like the cars that made racing history.

This car while not historically notable as far as I know, was just an old too many track-miles unloved car that I saved, and it will see the track again as well as the street. That use defines it and gives certain permission that a well restored numbers matching original is not permitted I believe.

Thanks everyone.
I enjoy reading the differing perspectives and common themes.

If it would be a stripe it would be the Porsche triple stripe. But I see Jack's car when I see it on mine. I'll leave the stripe to him, (immortalized on a skate board deck no less).

I am with Jeremy. This particular car is not meant to be subtle (tasteful hopefully, but in no way subtle).

DUDE, read the pole! Its a unanimous NO!

All the people saying go for it don't have engine lid stripes, the car looks uber-nast just the way it is.

Leave awesome alone and go enjoy it for chrissakes!

Seriously though, nice car the way it is ;)
