Do I need a side stripe?

Looking for help (see voting pole at the top, but also please comment, thanks)

Do I need a Carerra stripe?

A Porsche stripe?

No stripe?

Some help with photoshopping my picture to see what it looks like (yes)http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1376529188.jpg

Uncle 08-14-2013 06:16 PM

Porsche stripe gets my vote.

Damn good looking car by the way.

wayner 08-14-2013 06:37 PM

Thanks

Hydrocket 08-14-2013 06:42 PM

Fantastic car.

I use a REALLY dark stripe. Almost a "ghost" stripe. (maybe charcoal??)

Something too bold would ruin the beautiful look of your car IMO.

Reiver 08-14-2013 07:09 PM

It doesn't need anything....but that doesn't mean a stripe wouldn't look good.

porsche0nut 08-14-2013 07:14 PM

Awesome car - I like the idea of a subtle stripe, and for me it would be the "Porsche" stripe. Maybe a grey, light enough that the wheels bring it out, but dark enough that it isn't "too much".

Then again.... keeping it clean is also a winner. You can always take the stripe back off I guess if you don't like it or get tired of it.

JeremyD 08-14-2013 07:43 PM

I'd do a silver Porsche stripe

Arne2 08-14-2013 07:47 PM

Looks like silver stripes on the duck? Same color Porsche stripes on the side, if you do stripes at all. Does look good as is.

RSBob 08-14-2013 07:54 PM

A light gray would not shout but compliment the black beautifully.

timchar 08-14-2013 08:02 PM

Nice looking car, silver or grey.. Tim

Beltdrive 08-14-2013 08:23 PM

Stripes are for kids-we know what we drive-good looking car.

Hugh R 08-14-2013 08:27 PM

On stripes consider Joe Bob's recommendations, he does it for a living. Sweet ride.

donlan 08-14-2013 09:24 PM

Hello,I'll go along with Beltdrive..In spades!!!Michael.

snbush67 08-14-2013 09:38 PM

I don't know about a stripe, but you could use a beard and a cold Dos Equis.

Scooter 08-14-2013 09:50 PM

Done...just drive it!

al lkosmal 08-14-2013 10:15 PM

keep it clean

proffighter 08-15-2013 12:04 AM

Awesome look, but is the double stripe over the roof too, can't see on pic?

Geronimo '74 08-15-2013 12:24 AM

Try whatever color you like and rip it of if you don'like it, it's not a paintjod.
My vote, (dark) grey, carrera script.

Does
Jack Olsen know you are driving his car? ;)

Geronimo '74 08-15-2013 12:31 AM

Some good ideas on this other site... ;)

PS, If you want stripes buy a zebra.

Flojo 08-15-2013 01:20 AM

when I saw this picture, it immediately struck me, that a "PORSCHE" sidedecal was missing.

Go for it

Lovely car. Keep as is.

victatwin 08-15-2013 03:00 AM

No stripes ,it`s great now any more would be too busy, you already have transfers on the front guards and rear windows as well as the oil cooling lines showing their values, less is more, Great car by the way, Only My Opinion. In the end you have to live with it and enjoy it. Regards Brett L

Despite historic significance, I see stripes the same way I see any garish windshield banner or other large sticker on a car, Porsche or otherwise. I like it the way it is, clean, simple, understated.

wayner 08-15-2013 04:12 AM

I do have a stripe on the duck. It doesn't go over the roof.

To me it was just enough to bring the lines back in line. The duck disturbed the flow and the stripe brought it back.
If I did do the side stripe it would be the same silver, but I'd hate to mess up whatever look is going on right now.

(The tail and roll cage says "its not that kind of Porsche.")
But It would be really easy to go from tasteful to garish. Some would say garish already, but I love it so far and wonder if I want more.
But I know I don't want the tail strips to extend.

The side strips? I really don't know.

If you do go for a side stripe, i think you'd have to ditch the gulf sticker. If you do I would go for a ghosted stripe, in a dark grey, and match the stripes on the duck to it. Like the car as is as well though.

Caledonian 08-15-2013 04:48 AM

Did you need a Porsche? no but you wanted one and got one.

Do you need a stripe? if you want one get one:)

BTW I don't mind the the "PORSCHE" in the white in the pic

Craig T 08-15-2013 05:05 AM

No graphics. If you think it needs something...Add horsepower.

1990C4S 08-15-2013 05:13 AM

I'm thinking not.

If you do go for a stripe, do a Porsche stripe matching the tail stripes. More in keeping with the classic look you got going on.

I'm kind of partial to the side stripe.....sorry, couldn't resist.

If you do the side stripe go "PORSCHE" and like the photo below, add the line around the front and rear bumpers. The car below looks great.

Thanks to everyone for their comments and ideas.

I'm undecided but here is an important observation that I have made as I think about this:
Unlike almost any other color car, on a black car it seems really easy to make the look all about the stripe instead of about the car (with a stripe just providing a bit of accent colour - love a black strip on a bright green car for example).

I think that is why so many prefer ghosted etc. on black.

I tried the bumper stripe and to me the car immediately told me to take it off. Too much silver and lines all in one area of the car.

Still undecided about the side though

The bumper stripes 'only' work when you have the side scripts, and having the side scripts means ou really should have the bumper stripes.

The bumper stripes are there to remind you of the aluminum/rubber bumper strips that the factory installed.

wayner 08-15-2013 03:00 PM

I agree. The bumper stripe was a test before doing the whole side.

If I only look at the rear quarter (ignoring the side of the car, I didn't like how the bumper stripe competed with the tail.
