Actually a 964 part number since it was retofitted to these cars, stock 1996 on I believe:

#000-044-800-12

adhesive kit that you don't need: #000-043-203-42

here is the service bulletin:

You don't need a 993 rear glass. I happen to put one in and did this as well.

^^^ Thanks for this. One creative challenge would be to get the wiring through the roof (my car is a '74), and that looks like a tough one for someone with my clumsy fingers. Anyway, I'll look into it. Really nice appearance to it.

OsoMoore: with my kids' karate classes and soccer games, I didn't get as far as I had hoped. I moved the deck to the side as you noted, and fed the power and ground wires through the hole and into the engine compartment. There is one ground spot behind the fuel filter. I removed the strap around the filter but couldn't move the filter enough to see the nut for the ground spot. Therefore, I have given up on that ground spot, and instead am planning to use the other ground in the engine compartment on the left side intake. Currently, there are three lugs at that spot from the ECU. My current problem is that I passed 18 wire through the hole, and the lugs from Sears that fit the .25 inch post are for larger diameter wire. Tomorrow, I plan to search Home Depot for the properly sized lug. Otherwise, I'll just double over the stripped end portion of the 18 wire and crimp.

As an aside, while I was working on my car in my driveway, I took a break and went in the house, leaving the doors and the engine hood open. There was a knock at the house door. Some guy I've never seen before asked if he could look at my car and chat about it with me. Has that ever happened to you before ? I was initially alarmed, out it turned out that he previously owned a 911, but not a Targa.

Thanks, Steve

That looks great - any hints on how it went together - how did you avoid using the adhesive kit, and does it come primed, ready to paint?

Happens to me sometimes too!

It sounds like you have the hard parts done. Just make sure your connections are good and you should be all set soon.

The epoxy I ended up using to secure the light finally did what sticky tape couldn't, and its been great. Now if only I could fix my drive train issue...

OK Draco, I'll bite - how did you get the light so high up inside so that it does not interfere with the view behind? Which make of light did you use, and did you need to make a special bracket. More details please!

blinking 3rd brake light

I experimented on installing a blinking module in my 3rd brake light. It helps get the attention of the person following me. Here is a test video showing how it blinks (5X) on initial brake press and then turns solid. If you brake within 8 secs in stop and go lights are solid. It will only blink if you press the brakes again after 8 secs.

I got it from here. Chose the Blinking Smart Stop Delay Version. Module is a little over an inch in length and half an inch width double taped outside the housing of my 3rd brake light.

Thanks but not my light, it is a friend of mine's 3.2. I saw it from a winodw restaurant and wanted to post here.

It is a perfect fit OEM light from a 2014 CAYMAN ( 2015 will work also ) Dealer price is about $140-150 ebay $80.

He used a vinyl strip and cut to place. I guess you can also use windshield glass tint

I wonder how it would look in a Targa? I installed a Hella LED provided by DStern last year. Gotta admit I like this much better. Very clean

+1 DStern's LED TBL for me. Unfortunately, the CAYMAN TBL will not fit our Targas.

Third Brake Light on my SC!

I like the light the LED throws from the DStern 3rd brake, just like thin look of the pictured one.

Realistically, the DStern light only extends down a 1/4" at most from the targa bar. That is a 1/4" I am happy to accept due the the collision avoidance the light gives me. I elected to mount the light at the top of the rear window.

Hello. Where and how did you run the wires from outside to inside the cab? Thanks

On my Targa, there was a little hole in the firewall on the driver's side. It is used for the rear defroster power wire to pass through to the rear windshield. I put my wire for the lights through the same hole. I spliced it into the driver's brake light line in the engine bay.
