Wiring Oil Cooler Fan. Help decoding the wires from the relay socket.
I'm in the process of wiring an oil cooler fan for the Carrera cooler that is about to go in my car. The tech article is great except for one thing. I bought the relay socket but I can't tell which wires contact which holes in the socket. (Damn molded plastic)
Here are the colors, anyone know which is 30,85,86,87 & 87A? Grey Red Brown Red w/ white stripe Red w/ white stripe Many thanks, Noel |

I don't remember which color was which, but do remember it only about 2 minutes to figure it out with a multimeter and mark them all.
Don't do what I did, and mirror-image the relay plugs and the socket. As in, everything that should be on the left is on the right... Tom |

The pin out is for a 87 carrera.
30 RT (red) switched power from fuse box (16A) 85 GR (gray) controll signal (ground via the temp sender) 86 RT/SW (red/black) relay power from fuse box 87 SW (black) switched power to fan motor) 87a not used Or go to the dealer and get the following harnesses 911 612 804 00 harness temperature switch oil cooler 911 612 805 00 harness blower oil cooler The above should have the relay base and correctly colour coded wiring for a 87 with oil cooler temp sensor and fan. Good luck Chris |
