Question No Start Issue

Hello! I hope you'll all forgive my first post being the "need help" type, but here goes!

I have an 86 Carrera that is not starting. Cranks fine, but does not fire. It ran with no issues the day before, then the next day refused to start. I've had it for a few months now and have been driving it weekly again with no issues.

So far I've done the following:

- Jumpered the fuel pump, it whirs like it should.

- Tried to start it with fuel pump jumpered.

- Bought a little spark tester, and plugged it into one of the plug wires, grounded it as instructed. No spark.

- Tested coil voltage and resistance per Bentley manual and all seems well.

- Checked distributor cap, quite bit of burning and pitting on the contacts of the cap and rotor. Replaced both. Still no start.

- Checked the CHT, Speed Sensor, and Reference Sensor with multi-meter from the connections in the engine bay. The Reference Sensor is showing 0.0 on all of the checks, which makes me think the sensor is bad. CHT checked out fine, but it is one of the single wire variety. Speed Sensor checked mostly fine, but one of the connections wasn't right...can't remember which it was at the moment.

I'm assuming the next step will be to replace those sensors, but since it looks like that little rubber grommet will be a pain, I figured I'd ask to see if there's anything else I should do before I fight that thing. If I just need to replace it, any tips on getting that rubber grommet out and back in again?

Thanks in advance for any help! =)

- Jen

Here is some info to chew on. I do know folks talk a lot about the DME relay as causing problems but I am not sure of the symptoms.

Intermittent 3.2 Stalling

You have committed a very large infraction for this forum... a first post without the gratuitous car pic. If not corrected you may be subject to pelicans wrath.

Oh, and check DME relay, my understanding is it is most common culprit.
