good muffler shop in LA for exhaust stud extraction

I snapped an exhaust stud off flush with the head last night and need to have it drilled and extracted. Does anyone have recommendations for a good muffler shop that I could trust to do this. I haven't the time to do it myself and am worried about leaving the car with a shop that hasn't done a lot of 911's. The car has a back dated exhaust which was off yesterday so it will be simple to drop.
Thanks

Steve

Post a pic maybe we can do something about it, what part of LA are you in?

Jim

I bet Engine Machine Service in Ingelwood would know, ask for Dan or Bill

I'd ask a shop if they have a jig for a 911, which makes getting the hole drilled into the busted stud almost exactly concentric fairly easy. Pelican sells this jig (a Stomski tool). If they have his tool, or just made their own, that should be a good sign as to their familiarity with doing this.

Of course, if they say they do this with EDM (electronic discharge machining), you know you have a capable shop. I don't think many shops have this magic equipment. And it really is needed only if you have broken off hardened steel stud extractors already trying to get the bad one out.

Muffler shop personnel usually don't have the skill set to perform this repair. There are DIY techniques, but if you prefer to source this out, I suggest a Porsche repair shop who knows how to do this.

TLG, TRE and several qualified others depending on your location.

I've got the jig to drill it out I just don't have the time or space. More the time really, I need to get the car back on the road and I am buried time wise.
I was just hoping someone might have had it done in LA with good results and could make a recommend

Thanks for the input so far

Steve

Exhaust stud

Check with Henry at Supertec? I'm sure there are plenty of competent machinists that should be able to help.

If you can find a shop that does electronic discharge mashining (EDM). They can remove it like butter. All you need to so then is clean the threads.

EDIT: I just googled edm shop and la. There are plenty of COs one of them should be willing to do the job.

What's a "CO"?

LA is a big place with a lot of Porsche shops very capable of doing this work. Tony Callas, 911 Design, TRE, House, Arredondo, and many more. This is a very common problem when removing headers.

Co, I was trying to say company.

Just search: edm shop in LA. There was plenty of hits. One of them ought to have a portable rig.

The ones I know, have a magnetic base with spindles a la on a lathe. This way, it was really precise.

I have actually got my own EDM, but the cooling needs improving to avoid over heating and I don't have a rig, so right now, it is no good.
