- Are you sure both rear rims are equal (might have different ET's) ?
- Did a previous owner install flares at the back (but slightly different left / right) ? Yes, it happens ;)

Mine did the same thing when I bought it. All we had to do was yank the fender back out to the correct position. Zero tools, zero dollars. We just pulled and it popped right out to where it should be. I never tried to figure out why this happened.

Hmmm. Someone yanked on one side of my car's rear fender, now it sticks out a bit.

I wonder if I can push it back in?

CCM911 09-04-2013 09:36 AM

Just study it closely before doing anything. Mine was so obviously pushed in, that we knew we had a chance.

Based on your reply, I now will have to re-check both sides when I get home from work.

Thanks, aschen. Now I feel like a complete loser. LOL. And lazy as well. :)

Ditto for me.

Great thread.

aschen 09-04-2013 10:37 AM

Sorry guys, my aim was to motivate.......or perhaps misery loves company :)

My alternative thread was going to be a poll on who actually had functional AC, but after reading many AC threads lately I was reminded of the proverbial 10ft pole

aschen 09-04-2013 10:38 AM

also you guys reminded me of a few other small things :unamused:

T77911S 09-04-2013 10:47 AM

this was in the 930 forum

its really hot out so i put it up on stands to take care of some little things:

engine miss:
who knows. waiting on WUR and FD to be returned from Rarlyl8

brakes fading:
found cheap pads in there. going to flush the system and amke sure all pistons moving.
still need to look into this more. (been playing with the new welder)

adjust valves:
DONE
but going to go back thru them again. waiting on new feeler gauge. screw came out on old one. thank goodness it did not fall into the motor

have speedo set to actual mileage:
DONE
its out and on its way

have WUR modified:
waiting on its return

remove oil tank and lines to clean:
on hold.
lines were hard to get off. did not want to break anything.
may not happen

bypass speed relay:
DONE
i like to keep the wiring as original as possible so it looks good and can always be converted back. this took a few minutes to come up with a good fix.
BTW, what is the black relay next to the speed relay?
i love these plugs. very easy to modify.

fix front speakers:
one is working. stopped to do other work. need more time to figure out this speaker fader inthe console vs the stereo system.

small drain on the battery:
inside the cabin somewhere.

wire in the MSD properly:
DONE
got the connector to wire it into the factory harness.
got the MSD wired in. timmy2 hooked me up with a connector that connects to the factory connector that went to the CD unit.
got into some other wiring. the wire to the oil sending unit on the front is about to break. why is it that those always break?
there is some kind of sending unit mounted on the right timing chain cover. not sure what it is for.
re-routed the engine harness to clean things up.

fix passengers inside door handle:
DONE
the metal bar keeps popping off. after looking at it, i think the panel has been off and the rod mmay be on backwords.
sure enough. the rod has a long end and a short end. they put the long end to the door handle so it scrapes the door panel and it pops out of the handle.
fixed

paint intake system:
DONE
also powder coated fan, housing valve covers and the front tin.
added this after removing it.
this came out pretty easy. going to plug it. not sure how yet. maybe epoxy a plug in. not sure if i want to tap it.

clean the inside real good:
DONE
another after thought. after removing the door panel i started cleaning the door jams. they were already very clean anyway so it did not take much to touch them up. may remove passengers seat to clean around it
cleaned rear. oiled with neets feet oil.

steering colum:
DONE
found the plastic part of the bearing is coming apart. new part on order. says all you do is drive the new part in and it pushes the old out.....i hope
this was very easy to do. just hammer the new part in.

big dent in passengers floor pan:
DONE
this is a big thing with me. i like a nice straight floor pan.
couple wacks with a large hammer and you cant tell it was ever dented.

replace oil seal on tranny side cover:
part on order.
on hold.
going to wait until i pull the engine

replace seal around engine bay:
DONE
need to treat for a little rust on the part above the turbo. not rusted out yet.
also sealed holes in engine tin and added a piece to the tine around the turbo. not pretty but should work.
also applied "alu zinc' to under side of tin and back side of tin on bumper.
thinking about adding more heat shielding above turbo.

wiper arm switch:
DONE
someone put in a switch that cuts off the switch, but only for low. i have not decided if i am going to leave it in or pull it out.
i removed the 'racing switch" and soldered the wire back together to look original.

front condensor fan burned up:
DONE
replaced that. it works now.

small 1 inch crack in weld on exhaust pipe that goes to the WG
DONE
bought a northern tool welder. got some stainless welding rods and fixed. not pretty but fixed

wire in a vacuum solenoid for retard pot
DONE
this was quite simple but took time to figure out and do.
i wired the switch on the side of the throttle body so it operates the solenoid.
whats neat about this is that you could use it to delay the retard of timing when going on boost. the bad is that it would be hard to set. right now i am using the contacts that will cut out the retard pot at part throttle.
its also totally reversible.

when i am done, this car will be as perfect as it can be. no its a 25+ yr old car excuses.

81 SC Targa purchased 3 years ago with a questionable 67000 showing on odo.

At that time I made a long list but nothing too critical so I decided to drive the car awhile, which I have been doing.

Lost the list, still enjoying the driving and not too worried about it. :p

OK - I'll go:

Driver's side door rattles. Bought all new bushings from our host - waiting for weather to cool off to fix it.

Targa bar is in bad shape. Texture is all messed up. Needs paint.

Rear seat backs are all messed up from rear window seal replacement (yeah - someone stood on them and broke one). Need to swap out. But waiting to do that until after I get windows tinted.

And yeah - that's it.

You know, just stuff. This started off as a service. Next thing I know it looked like this.

My engine is sagging.

Seriously, You've all inspired me to put my list together. However, right now I have to fix the clutch so my engine won't sag anymore.

If anyone needs more ideas you can check out this thread too,

diagnose emergency brake issues
detail paint(scratches and dents)
repair drivers seat
diagnose sunroof issue
repair passenger window
Delivered the car today to the upholstery shop to fix the seat then take the car to my racing mechanic to figure out the emergency brake, window and sunroof issues. Finally got to get someone to buff out the paint.

Jerome74911S 09-04-2013 07:42 PM

My car is perfect, except for all those minor imperfections I constantly fiddle with.

Does this mean that there is something wrong with it, or is it normal?

Rodsrsr 09-04-2013 08:05 PM

I need more boost and a G50. :D

Kidasters 09-08-2013 05:59 PM

I redid all the bushings inside my d/s door this weekend. Also - tightened up anything that looked loose. Door rattle gone. Very happy. Next up - replace bushings and end links on rear sway bar.

quattrorunner 09-08-2013 06:23 PM

My wipers are not quite right, my signals are grounded somewhere, my tach sticks when hot, my bright switch has a mind if its own, my dash has cracks, my ac isn't installed yet and last but not least my car outruns brand new cars all the time!

wes_r 09-08-2013 07:01 PM

Glad to know I'm not the only one putting off repairs...

TO DO
-Ball joints
-Possibly tie rods
-Front sway bar bushings
-Windshield wipers not working
-Cruise control goes to WOT when activated
-Drivers window rattles when partially down
-Passenger interior door latch sticky/tough to operate
-Missing front speaker grilles
-Speedometer has partial illumination at night (top bulb out)
