Third brake light blocks rear visibility, solutions?

I have been driving my new to me 86 coupe and since I am tall I notice the third brake light basically obscures the entire lane directly behind me. I want to remove it, has anyone and does it look bad when removed?
I was wondering if others have this problem and if they have a solution. I have looked at some of the LED threads and I don't want to go there if there is another solution. I thought turbos had a mount outside on the engine lid, any way to make that work on a Carrera?

You can go for the ET style 3rd brake lights mounted on the engine lid or on the tail, if any. I am relatively short 5'7, so I don't have problems on the 3rd brake of my 86.

I have the same issue with my 86, although I am not tall and it still gets in my way. I am going to live with it for now.

Any of you wounded by an uneasy (haunting) idle when cold?

If you remove it, it leaves a black area the same shape laminated in the glass. Or so I was told.

Same here. 86 and tall. I'm dealing with it. IIRC Daniel Stern sells a generic Hella CHMSL that could be mounted low on the rear glass. I think some years the factory mounted the CHMSL on the bottom edge. -J

I saw the black on the glass and was wondering if is scraped off or if it is permanent. I was afraid of damaging the defroster getting it off.
