Post Backup Lights Stopped Working

Went to get my car inspected today and much to my surprise, my backup lights are not working (1973 911S). I replaced the lights... still nothing, checked the fuse (it's fine and everything else associated with that fuse work fine), checked the sockets and buckets for corrosion and there's nothing.

Any suggestions would be helpful... this is very frustrating.

Regards,

Marc

Marc,

I suppose the first thing to check would be the connector on the wires coming out of the switch for corrosion and a good, firm connection. Then, while you're down there, check the switch for continuity with the trans in reverse.

Warren,

Thanks for the quick reply... where exactly is that switch. I don't spend much time under the car, other than to clean it. I've never had this problem before.

Thanks Again,

Marc

Warren,

Thanks, now all I have to do is get it up in the air. That could be a pain, since I park my car in a garage in Manhattan. Is it possible to get to it without jacking it up.

Would it make sense to pull the car up a curb allowing me to slide under it?

Thanks again!

Marc

Marc,

A curb should be high enough, but a couple of short boards in the 2x8 class, under the right rear tire after jacking that side up with the factory jack would also probably be enough clearance, as long as you are under 200 lbs.

"probably be enough clearance, as long as you are under 200 lbs." Warren, you really know how to hurt a guy don't you? I already knew why clearance problems happened! That said, IF you're going to pull the back up light switch? You'll be losing some gear oil. Keep a drain pan handy. Good luck, Marc! And, man am I glad I don't live in NY, NY!
