List of Myths, Fairy Tales, Lies, & Common Misunderstandings
from Gunter:
"Revving an engine before shutdown is [a] myth." "You have to come to a full stop before re-setting the Odometer" "KN filters increase HP" I'll add a few: The original Dr. Porsche designed the 911. Painting something white will affect infrared heat absorption or emittance. Radiators cool the motor by radiating away heat. Bigger brakes will always help you stop faster. |

A common myth, recently noted by Sherwood:
You should let your car idle for a while to warm up before driving it. Sherwood pointed out that besides harm to the oil, this does nothing to warm any other fluid or component part. |

"You have to come to a full stop before re-setting the Odometer"
Try not doing that with a 944 and you will discover it's not a myth.

![]() I have one, the credit goes to Wil Ferch: - 911s are hand built cars, and as such the tolerances vary from car to car.

"Better gas mileage is achieved with windows rolled up and AC on than with windows rolled down and AC off."
What is AC?

"You have to come to a full stop before re-setting the Odometer"
if you try resetting while moving you can feel the gears being strained. I've broken a few doing that. If I push it slow enough at low mph I could usually get away with it.

as short a time as possible without lugging the engine. I need CHT of around 140F so it's not spitting, coughing, and lurching during the winter. That takes a couple of minutes.

A Porsche engine is a mystical thing, so precise in tolerances that it must be built in a clean room by white gloved technicians.
You cannot re-use alusil cylinders.
