Electrical/ Starting Issue - Please help
Hello Friends.
I'm having an issue with my recently purchased 1969 911 T, and am hoping you folks might be able to help me arrive at a solution, or at least give me some troubleshooting tips. This old car thing is new to me. ![]() Situation - I was stupid and left the key on for an extended amount of time. Killed the battery. I was going to remove the ignition switch to see about servicing it or replacing it, so I left it sit for quite a while. I removed the switch, realized it wasn't serviceable, so I reinstalled it. When I put a different battery in, I was getting one of the battery wires very very hot when everything was connected. (short?) Disconnected it, and searched for the cause of a short. When it was like this, I wasn't able to get the car to turn over. I replaced the starter with a hi-torque one I had around from a 914 project. I've gotten it now to where the car turns over, but there seems to be no spark. I had a spare coil, so I put that in, to no avail. I really don't understand the ignition arrangement on this car, as there seems to be no "CIS" box like I think there should be. Any suggestions on where to look? Turns over, gets fuel, won't fire. I'm looking over the manuals I have, searching through what I can, but not coming up with much. Basically I think I should be looking for what could have been hurt by being powered on for an extended amount of time like that, or what could have failed with an ignition. Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to provide. |

Have you checked the see if the points are operating, clean, and properly gapped?

You may want to start your own thread, as your car is very different from the '69 in this thread.
