acceleration problem
Hi,
First post! I have a 1980 911sc and have started to get some acceleration problems. It started with the accelerator pedal sticking, or at least i think, though it could have been something in the throttle linkage. Anyway I checked the pedal cluster and lubricated in case, looked at tunnel linkage too, seemed fine. The throttle in the engine bay works fine. I have yet to get underneath and check the other throttle parts to lubricate. However if I drive gently the engine revs do still hang in between gear changes, whats more if I accelerate harder the engine revs go up but I don't actually accelerate. Maybe its all to do with the throttle or even worse the clutch too! Any thing I should have a look at myself or get checked? |

If the engine revs rise but the car doesn't accelerate, it sounds like the clutch to me.
Revving that stays high too long, while stationary, could indicate a faulty decel valve, too lean mixture, or an air leak.

I have been asked to check the clutch lever and make sure it has a 1mm gap, if there isn't any gap then the clutch is slipping.
Is the clutch lever distance adjustable, as unless I have misunderstood, the actual clutch feels fine and is only slipping with harder acceleration? |

The clutch levers are made up of a long idle arm with a large helper spring.
The clutch is activated with the small arm on the bottom. The cable attaches to the idle arm and the cable housing attaches for length and adjustment to the trans. The pedal can be raised by moving the cable housing forward with the 2 15mm nuts. The adjustment that is mentioned is an 8 mm bolt and locking nut on the long idle arm with the gap to the short arm. If it looks like an idle problem, look at the bell swivels on the trans and top of the engine because both parts have nylon bushings that wear and then bind the accelerator. Bruce |

Clutch was worn so had new clutch fitted, clutch release arm, bearing, pin and spring, cleaned the entire area. Feels great now, so responsive, makes the whole car feel like new!
