The engine, and ALL engine compartment components, gets HOTTER due to the HIGHER operating temperatures of the exhaust manifold and catalytic converter mounted BELOW.

Makes sense!

If that's the case, then that's where the fan should be placed. :D One more reason to install after market goodies that get rid of the cat if you can.

My ride is too low to place a fan under it, what do you suggest?

that you install a lift of course!

It actually works well the way I have it. I wouldn't run the fan backwards. There is plenty heat being blown down and away. I really don't see the point of blowing that heat back on my heads.

If you want your blow job bass-ackwards that's up to you. I prefer to see my fan and a full frontal blow directly down on my heads.

For the 964/993 series Porsche used the cabin heater blower/fan to quickly abate the heating of the engine and engine compartment components via upflow from the ehaust manifold and catalytic converter. Cabin heater blower/fan sucks "fresh"/cool air in through the rear lid vent, forces it through the exhaust manifold "shroud" to pick up the HEAT, and then discharges the HEATED airflow downward through the rear wheelwell area.

I would imagine the cabin heater blower/fan could be easily upgraded to provide more CFM if that were needed/desired.
