Bilstein Shock Help
Replacing the rear shocks with HD Bilsteins. Out of the box it appears there's two bumpers on the shaft, whereas the old ones seems to have only one. Can anyone advise should I be installing as is, with two bumpers? The white cylinder one is harder plastic, the small diameter one is your typical absorbent rubber bumper.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated. ![]() |

If your ride height is anywhere near Euro or lower toss the white plastic spacers and keep the bumpers. My 86 is set up low and this is what I did: toss the spacers. No issues for 8k miles now.
Your existing shock looks like it had the bump stop trimmed on it as well. Older Bilsteins came with a one piece black bump stop that looks like he one on your old shocks only they start with three or four ribbed sections not unlike the new one. That old black bump stop probably started out life the same length as the two pieces pictured on your new shocks. -J

JAR appreciate the feedback. My car is at euro spec so your explanation makes sense. The bad news is I already installed one so I will need to remove it and take out the white spacer.
Thanks! |
