I would have said trans fluid, but what fluid stays that clear red color after a few miles? I would like to know if that is a fluid/sealant mix driven out by gravity? Otherwise, I'd have to say trans fluid of the Redline variety - very new fluid in fact.

Is Redline gearbox oil really red? I could swear I put Redline in my 915 this past spring, but I don't think its red. It was just normal light brown/amber. Is this maybe a synthetic oil that is red?

Roger

Edit - Ignore this. I used Lucas, not Redline.

Looks like the wrong fluid for a 915 to me. Swepco is blue/green and Kendall is Amber (is Redline red?). Looks like it's coming from the gasket between the gearbox and the 5th/reverse cover. I would toss a wrench on those bolts and put the right oil in there. May still leak but at least it will be leaking the correct lube!

New ground strap, tranny and mount very clean, new clutch cable.. did you just have all that work done? If so, ask the shop what they put in there..

Redline is somewhat red, but not that bright, even when new.

No, I don't use Redline in my Porsche, I'm running Kendall. But I have used it in other cars, notably BMWs.

Which would still not be ideal for a 915 (at least according to several "experts").

SWEPCO 201 is blue/green. SWEPCO 210 is red.

210 is great for gear life but not good for 915 synchros (per Mayo Performance)

I had the exact same thing in my 86 carerra. I do not have any red fliids in my car. Kendall in the tranny, brad penn in the motor. It was in the exact same spot as yours and i have never figured it out. According to my wrench there isnt anything red in the car. I just chalked it up to transfer from the road or a puddle of something, now i am very intrigued

Maybe your car is at "that time" of the month. A 911 with PMS is gonna no fun.

Looks like someone put the wrong ( ATF) fluid in it. I would be draining it & filling with Swepco.
