3.2 Convert to Distributor / Carbs ?

Investigating Plan B...

In the event it proves completely impossible to get my car running... which at this point seems to be the case... I need to start planning to convert it to carbs and a normal ignition system.

Read the tale of motronic woe here - Help! 3.2L Conversion in '73 911T wont run!

So, for a Euro 3.2 engine, what is required for a complete conversion to carburetors and a distributor system?

I know I can order a complete set of PMO's with everything needed for the induction. But what about ignition? Will a distributor that can be fired by an MSD box bolt on or is the crank not setup for it? What is the most economical and RELIABLE means of spark? How about cams? Will the stock camshafts be ok with a carb conversion?

Stick with plan a.

Check all of your ground straps, unbolt them and clean them really good, replace any cracked and frayed wires and connections.

I read through your other thread, it is a intermittant electrical short somewhere, that is what is going on.

Carburetors will not make your life easier, you still need spark.

To answer part of your question, you can use carbs with the stock cams, but it is not the ultimate set up. I am pretty sure you could run a locked distributor with an adjustable curve MSD box, not sure though.

what about running a crank trigger for spark and something like megasquirt to control ignition only?
