Available space in the rear wheel well

I'm considering widening my 7" Fuchs rims for the rear of my SC but really want to push the limits in the wheel width. Does anybody know what the maximum available space is under the rear wheel well is ? I would ordinarily measure myself but my car is being treated to some TLC at a local panel shop.

you can fit factory 16x8 or 16x9 inch fuchs in the rear without issue or spacers.

the 16x7 work nice up front, though you'll likely need to roll the front fenders to avoid rubbing

You can put a 275 width tire on 9.5" rims - but you'll have to roll the fenders - and massage the oil lines a little.

That's personally the biggest tire I've put on for track tires - I've heard of a 295 fitting - but never seen one in person

I've done 18x10" with a 280/650/18 Yokohama slicks under Carrera rear fenders with room to spare. Oil lines moved, fenders rolled etc. Going to build up some 18x11" and try a 280/680/18s under some more heavily massaged Carrera fenders.

Thanks heaps Gentlemen, just to clarify I'm not too concerned about which stock Fuchs rims would fit under the wheel well because my std 7" will be modified to a maximum allowable. Also my proposal is to change the offset to maximize both the outer and inner spaces. Specifically I want to retain the shallow dish look of a 7" rim but at a much wider overall rim, I think this would be a subtle but aggressive look. Jeremy, 275 or even 295 would be excellent if it is indeed possible.

You also have to consider suspension and usage of the car. For the extreme examples above you need a really stiff suspension, or to drive like an old lady...

THIS.

I'm going from 245 rear to 265 on the next tire purchase

A little off topic, but has anyone seen the bling wheels that are wider than the tire mounting surface - they look really great on show cars, not suggesting them for anything else.

For example they will make a 9" rim with a great deep dish look behind the spokes, but at 7" in the rear mounting lip will come down to mount a tire that is not as wide as the wheel. It works because there is typically space around the brake rotor for more wheel, but not often space for more tire. Have to be seen to be believed.

As a reference, here are a couple of shots of a pair of DP Motorsport 9x15's. They started out as 7's, and had 2" added to the inside. I had them fitted with 270 Michelin TB15's. They have 7" backspacing.
I use to run stock 9x16's w/5.5" backspacing and 9x17's w/6" backspacing and 275 Hoosiers on our '73E targa with factory RS flairs. I didn't need to roll the rear fenders, and I just ground down the trailing arm bolts to clear.
