Guys, Help me id this part
Anyone ever seen this part? I have two floating around my cobble of parts and I can't remember what or where this goes. Thank you in advance.

Looks like the 10mm threads that hold the forward bolts on the turbo charger to the turbo base piping.

I don't know the part Bruce is talking about. But my guess was going to be the captive nut plate on the back side of the door latch panel. The rust is consistent with that location too!

i just had my door and latch panel completely dissasembled the other day on my 78 targa and saw nothing like that.

Mike's right, it's the plate that holds the captive nuts for the door striker on the back side of the B post (inside the rear wing/fender). There's a shaped plate that holds it loosely in place so you can adjust the striker a bit.
I had to make a replacement (like you will!) using the original captive nuts welded to a new, easily cut, piece of sheet metal. See page 4 here DDK - Die Deutschen Klassiker • View topic - 66 LHD 'Doctors Car' restoration begins Mick |
