Post PartWerks Update

I know I'm one of a very small group of PartWerks defenders here, but they are treating me right. I ordered the turbo tie rod kit, which they sell for $129 new. I returned a part I had bought, but no longer needed. Cathy just called me and said they were crediting my return toward the tie rods purchase price and they would pick up the shipping. I haven't received it yet or seen the receipt. But I'd say that's customer service. I alerted them to the flaming they were taking here, so maybe they're trying to patch up their image. BTW, they always respond to my emails within an hour.

I was just on Vertex's site and the same tie rods are $129 as well. Anyway, I had to return a part to PartWerks, so I went to them first. If I find a better deal or they shaft me, then I'll change. But so far, so good.

Why not Pelican Parts? They sell the kit for $129.00.

I am trying to get a refund right now. I have bought parts from a lot of different vendors. I have never had a problem with returns like I have had with Parts Werks. What a pain.

I still don't understand why people who use the BBS, and the website don't support it. If you don't want to support Pelican, then don't use the BBS. And certainly don't tout my competitors in my face. That's a bit disrespectful.

Sorry, Wayne. I'm a shopper for parts, but will only order from you now that I am part of the board. Speaking of which, I'm gonna place an order right now!

Gee,

Out of respect for the fact that Pelican Parts is flipping the bill on this forum, I would buy the tie-rods from them. I certainly would not boast the benefits of doing business with other vendors on their BB system. Call me old fashioned, but yes I still open doors for my wife and say please and thank you... Let's give the Pelican guys an ounce of respect.

You go Wayne!

I can attest for one thing...if you order from Pelican, you WILL get the parts, typically in under a week...no fuss, no muss.

IF there is something wrong -- usually meaning that you ordered the "wrong thing" or changed your mind -- then they will take the return and credit your account promptly.

Honestly I don't order ALL of my stuff from Pelican, but in the past few years I have certainly pumped the ol' Visa card pretty hard on this site, and I am a damn satisfied customer.

Cheers,

Thumbs up

I would like to relay this about Pelican.

I was ordering some of those cheezy cardboard gaskets that are used in the CV joint. You Know the ones I mean Vern!

The salesman offered to overnite them. I told him that it was a long range product. I said, "Just put them in an envelope and mail them". He replied, "No problem!" Sure enough, about 3 days later in the mail was an envelope. NO PROBLEM.

That's thinking about the customer.

Go Wayne, Go!

Thanks again,
David Duffield

PartWerks is a junk yard. Litterally.

If I want to buy new parts and Pelican has them for a good price then Pelican it will be. As long as the BBS is public and not just for customers only you will have conversation that includes other vendors.

Although it may be in bad form to praise other vendors on this BBS Pelican gets LOTS of "free" advertisement from all the Pelicanheads here, even if they haven't made a purchase yet. The counter trips off about 20 new members a day.

Alright guys. This weekend I will have owned my 911 for a whopping one month. I'm sure I will be buying a lot of parts over the years. I got turned onto PartWerks through eBay, where I've bought and sold a lot of other stuff. They did a good job for me and I saw them getting trashed on this board. So I relayed my good experience with them. I have learned a lot from this board and I will support it -- both with my insight and my money. Entering my second month of Porsche ownership, I have plenty of parts in mind for upcoming projects. I will support the Pelican board and the Pelican catalogue. There are a lot of very different opinions here. When I ask what oil people use, I get 50 different answers -- ditto for octane. When I first met some guys at the Potomac region PCA, one of them commented to me how confused I must have been by all the varying answers I got to any question. I'm sorry some people have gotten screwed by PartWerks. They treat me right. I will buy from Pelican too and I have no reservations doing so. It's just that I haven't had the need for too many parts yet.

BOY IT'S GREAT TO SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL WEBSITE & 911 FORUM. I'VE ONLY PURCHASED PARTS FROM PELICAN EXCEPT FOR THE VERY FEW KNICK KNACKS THAT ONLY PORSCHE CARRIES.. THEY HAVE ALL OF MY BUSINESS AS I'VE EVEN ORDERED PLUGS FOR MY VETTE (BOSCH PLAT 4'S) AND EXPLORER FROM TOM.. THESE GUYS DO A GREAT JOB BUT DO ALL OF US A GREATER SERVICE BY ALLOWING AN OPEN FORUM
HEY WAYNE, THANKS A BUNCH

Ok, I'll play the devil's advocate here.

No one will deny that this BBS is awesome in many ways. But does this obligate, or even gently nudge us to buy from Pelican Parts? I would hope not. Wayne, are you implying this board is not done out of your love for Porsches and to give other Porschephiles a place to meet and chat, but instead as a economically strategic move to reel in more customers? Absent serious problems (poor quality, unreliable delivery), I like many people look for one thing... the lowest price. In my experiences, Vertex has had the lowest price 99% of the time. They deliver quickly and I have no complaints. Automotion has ridiculously high prices; I've never bought from them. I love this forum and enjoy reading the articles, but will admit I have yet to ever buy anything from Pelican Parts (although I WILL be getting one of those books...looks very well done Wayne). If Pelican Parts wants more customers, prices talk. Price match, shop your competitors, etc...that is what will get a following, not a "this is our BBS, buy from us and only compliment us". You might win over some brown-nosers with that, but for the rest of us living on a budget, we'll still buy where the prices are best. Just my thoughts, not meant with any disrespect. Ok, let the flames begin!

Colby

Duh!
Of course it is a marketing strategy....and a good one at that!
Otherwise, Wayne would be running a charity for a Porsche owners forum.
"Yes I have enough money to buy a porsche, but I need someone else to incur the expensive of hosting a bbs for me".
Boy doesn't that sound good. Hope the ricers don't hear about this.

I'll pay a little more (just a little) for stuff from Pelican. Not because I feel I owe them for the BBS, but because I want them to get enough business so that they are able to keep hosting the BBS. If I had to rely on just my Haines or Bentley manuals, or worse yet, take my car into a mechanic again, I think I'd put the for sale sign up.

Wayne has been pretty good about letting us talk about his competition (while in his house), and he only rarely actively hawks his own parts (cool-collar not withstanding). So I shop around, and if it's only a few bucks difference, the business goes to Pelican.
