Reinstalling Axle on Carrera - Couple Questions
Hey Guys - I went to tech a couple weekends ago in preparation for Summit Point DE, and found a torn CV boot. I uninstalled the axle and am having a local shop clean the joints, re-grease and replace both boots. I'll be re-installing the axles tonight and had a few questions:
1. Do I need to replace the CV Joint Bolts even if they're in fine condition? If so, would these be available at an Ace Hardware or Napa? 2. Do the CV Joint Bolts need to be lubricated? Thanks, Andy

In my opinion the bolts don't need to be replaced if in good condition. The biggest issue I found with that is the condition of the inhex head relative to R&R the bolts.
Probably not available at Ace Hardware ; maybe in size but probably not grade. I don't know about NAPA. These probably aren't a good place to scrimp on money. I use anti-seize on about everything myself, but that's just me. |

You do not want to use any lubrication or anti-seize on these bolts. The bolts and the threads in the flange must be clean and oil free, otherwise there is good chance they will back out over time.

No problem re-using these. You have the bigger (10mm) bolts. They are very reliable.

Reuse as long as your allen wrench fit is good. Do not lube.
If you need a rplacement, call Fastenal in King of Prussia. They are right in the same building as Karosserie(the high end collision place you see from the PA turnpike). If you need help, send me a Private message, and I can come by and help on Saturday.

Guys - Thank you all for the input. The old hex bolts reinstalled just fine - no anti seize.

Don't forget to re-torque after a few hundred miles. Also, you may want to consider schnor washers, they help bolts from backing out.
