Crazy like a Fuchs

Today I got my set of 'street' 17-inch Fuchs*. They're 8x9x17, as opposed to the 'track' 8x10x17's.

8x10x17:

8x9x17:

*Fuchs-centered, 2-piece wheels

I've now got two sets of 7x8x16 genuine Fuchs that I'm going to sell, done in the same polished/painted style. Email me if you're interested in them.

Jack,
The fuchs look ******* good!

Did you explore mounting the centers so the reverse side of the wheel is facing outward? Notice the drop center area is offset to the center line of the wheel? This area would now be on the inside of the wheel. Not sure if the desired wheel offset would allow this, but the look would be more like the BBS/BMW factory alloys.

BTW, how do the weights compare? (I know. Apples and oranges - 16" vs 17").

John, they cost $1300 plus a set of four 6x16 donor Fuchs (typically $400). They're made by Lindsey Racing in Oklahoma. Not bad for being able to fit 8x10x17 wheels with 245's in front and 275's in back with SC/Carrera flares. Guys typically pay more than that for a set of 7x9x16 factory Fuchs wheels.

Sherwood, the 9's weigh a little less than 18 pounds. The 8's are 16.

Jack,

I've got to say it again, OUTSTANDING! (yeah, I dig those puppies too).

As you know, I've got an '87 Carrera-3.6L, lowered (about an inch) to european specs.

What size 17" "Fuchs" can I run without having to modify the fenders? This will be for the track. I am currently using 17" Cup wheels at the track and have been thinking Fikse lately, but I feel (as you obviously do too) that Fuchs is the proper "look" for these cars.

So, what do you recommend for front and rear (track wheels) and what size rubber??

Thanks.

Great looking wheels (again)!

You got me thinking about getting some 16x7s made up in an "R" offset for the rear of my narrow 911.

I have some 16x6s and wondering what the turnaround time at Lindsey is?

I guess I might have to go 17x6 in the front and 17x7 R offset in the rear.

Does Lindsey make 16" or just 17"+ diameters.

TIA!

Best,

Kurt

Well, for the track, I recommend as big as can be fit, which is at least 235 in front (I haven't tried 245 yet, but I think that will work, too), and 275 in back. However to fit those rears, you need to move an oil line, machine the tops of two bolts on the passenger side springplate, and roll (or grind) the inner fender lips. You also need to dial in a lot of negative camber for this, but your lap times will improve proportionately.

If you're not up for the mods in back, then you can do what I did for the 'street' wheels, which is 9 inches in back and 255's, which will still require some tweaking (either the oil line or the fender lips, but I'd guess not both). 235's on 8's should fit in the front with no problem. It did on mine, at least.

My car is lowered to 24.5 front, 24 rear, so you might have an even easier time.

Does Lindsey make 16" or just 17"+ diameters?

I'd bet they can make 16's with 16-inch (or maybe 15-inch) centers. It just depends on the availability of the rims. Call Mike or Dave at 877 943-3565.

Jack, are those greyhounds?

Whippets. They accelerate faster than greyhounds (or any other breed of dog, for that matter) and have a great power-to-weight ratio.

Kurt - please let me know how this discussion goes (I would love to get a 225 under the back of my car, much as you would).

Jack:

Hey, I just noticed in the picture of the dogs, your liscence plate surround seems to say "Marxist Classic Car Club"

I must be reading this wrong. Doesn't sound very marxist to drive a Porsche (unless we ALL have one! :-)

Later!

Chuck

Jack, What is the offset for the 17X8 and 17 x 10s? and What Tires are you using for the track?
