85 sway bar arrrrrrrgggggg
I pulled off one control arm to replace the ball joint.
I had to heat it up pretty well to get the nut loose and I did not want to damage the strut...or have any drama there. So now I cannot seem to figure out how to get the control arm back into the cross member..with the ball joint in place in the strut, and the sway bar in the bushing... What it the trick here? I am jacking the wheel up and down, can't get it to line up, and the front of the control arm is pointing away from the centerline of the car....can't pull that back by hand... Rich |

I would try to do it without the sway bar installed. Without the tension of the sway bar, you should be able to wiggle everything into place.
Of course, getting the sway bar installed is not easier. I recently did this and I pushed one end of the bar as far as possible into one bushing. This gave me almost enough room to then squeeze the other side into place. The wiggle the bar a bit so that it is equally inserted into each end bushing. Also, you will need the center bushings unclamped to do this. You can re-clamp after the ends are in place. |

Tried that...
Could not get enough power to bend the sway bar so it would line up. |

I think there are a couple threads on this, I must of lucked out when I did my 87, but if I recall correctly, one fellow used a come-along to assist him.
and I think someone else suggested lots of water based (which would eventually dry) lube, and push the opposite side forward to get some slack enough to get the side of concern started, the equalize them.

silicone spray or paste on the bar and bushings. push it into the opposite bushing so you get as close as possible to the other one it goes into and do some creative pushing/prying until it slips in.

Front sway bar installation..........

I clamped u-bolt at each end of the sway bar and pull it close together. A mechanical hoist works much better than a come-along device. Had dinner, rested, then lubed it up and bent it in place...
Something's are better left the way they were... 914 and early 911 through body bar, much better, and adjustable. My arms are beat now...geez |
